SUMMER BREAK BEACH OLYMPICS

Some people have been lead to believe that the Olympics is held once every four years; we say au contraire mon frere - it's actually held 3 times a year! The Summer Break Beach Olympics staged on our exclusive beach is the ultimate student sporting spectacular and one of Summer Break's highlights.

Spell-bounding feats of endurance, pain, awareness and fluke. Awesome prizes, medals, inflatable trophies and most importantly bragging rights will be dished out every week to the most impressive unis.

 

 

SPACE HOPPER RELAY

The stakes could not be higher as inter-uni rivalry is gambled on the ultimate old skool toy. For some bizarre reason the space hopper relay tends to attract a large male audience around the amphitheatre, it must be something to with the way they bounce up and down.

 

 

 

CLOTHING PEGS ON THE FACE

Quantity not quality is king, as a team mate takes considerably more than one for the team! The current record holder exceeded 118 pegs; alas there remains a distinct resemblance between his face and a cheese grater all these months on!

 

 

 

 

FLIPPER SPRINT

Aside from pace, agility and skill, you'll also need some hands on team mates to whip the flippers off and get them onto the next runner as quickly as possible. One of the most intensely contested elements of the Beach Olympics, the flipper sprint makes for excellent viewing.

 

 

 

BLIND FOLDED SACK RACING

The removal of vision, the crescendo of noise and the need to trust in your team-mates makes this one of the most entertaining relays at the Beach Olympics.

 

 

 

 

BEER CAN DASH

If you think you've got the Usain Bolt of the beach on your team then nominate them to represent your team in the beer can dash. It's like musical chairs, only there's no music or chairs! There are less beer cans than there are competitors, so lying face down 30 ft away its a straight up sprint to grab a can and claim more points for your team.

 

 

 

MARSHMALLOW EATING

In every crew of mates there's always one with a big mouth and this event perfectly fits their purpose, plus it gives all the rest of your crew five minutes of peace and quiet! The game neatly incorporates quantity and quality, as the big mouthed one opens wide and prepares to receive their white fluffy load.

 

 

 

MR & MISS SUMMER BREAK

The epic journey to find the boy and girl who most embody the Summer Break spirit continues each week on the beach stage. With the loosest of judging criteria as standard, we are looking for the best banter, party tricks, chat up lines or any other assets.

 

 

 

 

CHIPMUNK

rrrap Pack star, MOBO Award winner, capturer of hearts and top rapper CHIPMUNK has signed up to join us at Summerbreak 2010! Chipmunk has recently been working and touring with N-Dubz and featured on their album Uncle B. With the addition of his quality MC skills there is no doubt about; this 19 year old is going to BRING the party at Summer Break!

With his debut single “Pass Out” going straight number 1 in the UK singles chart, it goes to show that the hype surrounding Tinie Tempah is fully justified. He’s been touted as the next big thing by all the big players at Radio 1 - so its a great pleasure to have the one and only Tinie Tempah brings his unique UK sounds to the sands at Summer Break 2010.

SUBFOCUS

A stalwart of Andy C’s Ram Records label and the most prolific DNB producer of the last 12 months, SUB FOCUS is coming to Summer Break 2010. Having released chart ripping tunes Rock it & Could this be real, he’s been gaining further notoriety for his remixes of The Prodigy, Deadmau5, Empire of the Sun and Dizzee Rascal.

CASPA & MC ROD AZLAN

The Dubstep don himself Caspa is coming to Summer Break with a record bag stuffed full of "sub-bass driven wobble wobble party bangers" (that's a bit of a mouthful..), anywho Caspa will be accompanied by the immense MC Rod Azlan. Having remixed the lieks of Deadmau5 & Depeche Mode, Caspa has taken the Dubstep around the globe, so expect nig things in Newquay.

The UK's largest student indie night is taking a well overdue residency down at SB10. The man behind the movement, DJ Dan, will be bringing the noise with his one man War on Boring DJs! With a weekly audience of 10,000 students, Propaganda is fully established as one of the biggest club brands in the country. So if you haven't experienced it before, then now is the time!

With new album Watch The Sun Come Up having already assaulted the airwaves this year, big things are lined up for EXAMPLE as he goes on a massive arena tour in support of Tynchy Stryder. Zinc's illustrious career as DJ and producer stretches through the genres of UK electronic music with huge offerings in Jungle, Rave and now his latest undertaking, “crack house”. Like everything he’s done before, Zinc’s crack house has been riotously received with bookings galore around the globe. His latest single with Miss Dynamite “Wile out” has been a radio and rave favorite, with remixes by the likes of Skream. RADIO 1’s MISTAJAM

If hip hop is your game then Radio 1xtra’s Mistajam is the name! The Best DJ award at the Urban Music Awards for 2008/09 is just the start for the tastiest thing to hit Hip Hop since gin and juice. With an eclectic ear for all things Urban, Mistajam has built his reputation on playing the smoothest licks across the biggest beats. Always popular with the ladies, Mistajam’s Summer Break parties are sure to be overflowing with the sexiest RnB, Hip Hop and soul.

JAYMO & ANDY GEORGE

In new DJ’s we and Radio 1 do trust! Jaymo & Andy George are the fresh-faced floor fillers ready to bring every genre from disco to dubstep to a bouncing nightclub in Newquay. Producers, promoters and pioneers in their home haunt of Lincoln where their monthly Moda raves now sell out with 1600 partying punters.

JAMES BUCKLEY – JAY FROM INBETWEENERS DJ SET

Jay, the King of clunge and tormentor of all bus wankers from E4’s cult show the Inbetweeners will be taking to the decks in sunny Newquay. Armed with a collection of indie anthems and raucous banter, the most sexually repressed member of the Inbetweeners will in residence every Monday night at Summer Break.

URBAN KNIGHTS DVJ

Audio visual pioneers and turntable terrors the Urban Knights will be back at Summer Break to deliver their dazzling live sights and sounds. Mixing your favourite moments from film with the most body-shattering basslines is all in a day’s work for Z KNIGHT & KVL. The resident DJ’s Swatch have spent the last year perfecting their performances around the globe and the latest show will only dazzle.

CLUB DE FROMAGE

London and now New York’s most formidable cheese connoisseurs are coming back to Summer Break with a rucksack full of party favourites and club bangers.

DJ CUDDLES

Short of stature but large of glasses, Mr Cuddles first cut his Summer Break teeth in 2007 & has been back to the Newquay dentist ever since. An international party-starter, his genre-hopping idiocy has graced the likes of Snowbombing, Glastonbury and Bestival. Prepare to shake your tailfeathers as he bounds from disco to dubstep, from block-party classics to arms-aloft anthems in one heady, messy brew - now that's specs appeal!"

DJ MAX HONEYMAN

Max has rocked every crowd that has ever been put in front of him. For ten years Max has be honing his DJing skills on the sun kissed shores of Cornwall, playing at venues as diverse as Superclub, Pure Newquay to an underground rave in a dis-used Tin Mine. His main musical love is dance music, although his audacious mixing will take you on a journey from D&B to Dubstep, Hip-Hop to House. His adaptable style pleases everybody. Jaguar Skills is even quoted as saying ‘Max is even better than me!’ after the two played together for the fourth time in 2009.

ZIP WIRE

The rush of launching yourself from the cliff top to ride the Zip Wire high across a crowded beach is second to none. It is a hair-raising, high-wire ride. Your experience on this aerial runway is finished off with a 50ft free abseil down to the sand

TENSION DIAGONAL

This is the fastest way to get from cliff-top to beach. It's a stomach turning, accelerated abseil that feels more like a free fall as you hurtle towards the sand at great speed. This is not for the faint-hearted as you have to put your full trust in your instructor to put the breaks on before you hit the bottom.

ABSEIL

A cliff abseil lesson allows you to experience the Cornwall coast from a whole new perspective. The abseiling routes have varying gradients and unique challenges, but the ultimate experience for more advanced groups involves an abseil into the gaping mouth of a huge sea cliff looking out onto Newquay bay.

ROCK CLIMBING

Cornwall provides some of the best rock climbing in the UK at both coastal and moorland locations. This rewarding activity is a test of nerves, skill and agility.

CLIFF HANGER

Clip in for a low level traverse across the sheer rock face, then pull yourself across a couple of ravines on high wires, abseil over the mouth of a cave, then scramble up to the top of the cliffs. This activity offers the perfect blend of skill, adventure, adrenaline, fun and dramatic scenery.

MULTIVINE

This is not one for those with a fear of heights. The Multivine is a nail-biting high wire walk across a gaping chasm at the top of the cliffs. You are harnessed in and asked to traverse across a thin wire while trying to grab hold of a series of vines for support. This is a real test of nerves and skill.

SNAKES & LADDERS

Snakes & Ladders is an obstacle course inside a steep gully leading to the top of the cliff high above the beach. This vertical assault course is a challenging test of rope skills and agility. Use your skill and coordination to overcome a series of obstacles, going over scrambling nets and under logs to reach the cliff top.

RAT RUN

The Rat Run is a series of narrow tunnels and tight corners built out of wood at the base of the cliff. Designed to resemble caving or pot-holing, the Rat Run was built to train rescue professionals. But it has also proved an exciting challenge for adventure seekers!
